Jupiter LRGB Image was created by carlobeirnes
Hi all,
It’s great having time to do some astronomy again; I’ve being catching up on some processing this image of Jupiter was one of my last in December 2012. It’s a total of eight RGB’s combined in Winjupos I also used the Green channel as the luminance. The images where captured using a C14 OTA on an AP1200 mount. Lumenera Skynyx 2.0m CCD camera, Astronomik RGB filters and a 2X Barlow. Processed in AS2, Winjupos and Photoshop.
Please click on the image to enlarge.

Carl,
I see the GRS and the oval BA are really prominent in your image. Its interesting that the oval BA is so strong and the dark spot following it.
I find the wake to the GRS so complex.
Would your telescope and imaging system resolve Saturn's polar hexagon and the yellow band around it? The yellow polar band is around the hexagon and it has a dark rim and a light centre. I was at a RAS NAM presentation recently at St Andrews where this feature is of immense interest to astronomers. They are really puzzled as to the processes involved. The complex hexagon rotation is different to the main body, hence the puzzle. Unfortunately, they are relying on the occasional Cassini images which are out of date on most times. They need continuous imaging over a long period in order to understand what is going on here regarding the processes. This is where ground based observations are needed.
I hope that this may be an incentive for you and others here to continuously image Saturn this season.
Thanks for showing the beautiful image.
Eamonn

Carl,
What's your view on IR filters in planetary cameras?
Have you tried imaging Jupiter with IR Pro filters?>
Michael.
