2" v 1.25" Filters was created by manic_dave
Wondering about buying a deep sky filter for shooting deep sky objects with my DSLR through a short APO. (72mm William Optics)
i see you can get filters in 1.25" and 2" i have connections for both, i was wondering if there is an advantage for the almost double cost of getting the 2".
Am I wrong in thinking that the 2" is way bigger than the chip on the dlsr needs?

1.25" would be very tight.
The chip of the 60d has a diagonal dimension of 1.07inches - compared that to the 1.25inches of the filter.
Remember, the filter is further up the light cone from the objective.
Makes for a very tight squeeze to avoid vignetting.
If I had to choose between the two, I would select the 2" filter.
However, what about the EOS-clip filters?
Much smaller. Near the chip. Clip into the camera.

If you are only going to use it on a DSLR then the clip in is a god bet, it will work with non EF-S canon lenses also.
If you think you might want it on a CCD in future then the t-thread CLS-CCD might be worth considering.

Hi,
You're far more likely to get vignetting with a 1.25 inch filter then you would with a 2 inch filter.
If you're happy that the filters will only be used with this camera, then the clip in filters would be the way to go.
