Jupiter From 9th Of February 2014 was created by carlobeirnes
Hi all,

Here is an Image of Jupiter from the 9th of February taken by Carl O Beirnes and Karl Brady and is a nine minute derotation.

The seeing conditions were average at best. The image was taken using a C14 and a Skynyx mono camera,
We went back to basics with this image and gave the C14 a good servicing to make sure everything was working at its best.

Tell us Carl, is north up. And tell us the name of the moon.

And what are those strange diagonal lines across the equator. I have never seen the like of them before!

Brilliant image. Thanks.

Hi Aubrey,

Yes north is up and the Moon is IO. As for the storms on the equator, this is one of the reasons I love imaging Jupiter because it is so turbulent. There is always a new configuration of storms every time along the equator, whether it’s in the eyepiece or a webcam. I don’t put all the scientific labels on the images for the general public as some people just prefer to see the image without all the techno jargon so to speak.
Clear Skies,

Carl.

Thank you, Carl, for that. Those storms are most bizarre.

By the way, I am planning to set up my 6.2" apo after sunset tonight.

2 things that are happening are the reappearance of Io at 19.48 UT, and the GRS is on the central meridian at 20.25. I wonder is it still orange?

Oh and there may be a background star visible extremely close to Io when it appears.

It looks like a fun night.

Aubrey.
