Jupiter’s Great Red Spot Changing Color. was created by carlobeirnes
Hi Guys,
Here is an Image of Jupiter that was taking by Carl O’Beirnes and Ger Molloy from my observatory in Balbriggan. The image was taken on the 15th of February; the seeing was average to OK. The image is a 5 min derotation in Winjupos. The one thing I did observe during my imaging nights and some research is that the GRS is not disappearing. It just fades to pink and cycles back to red, Very likey one of the reasons for the fading is Jupiter's distance from the Sun during it's year, which is 11.86 Earth years. Sunilight's energy is proportional to the square of the distance between the Sun and the planet it is falling on. The Red Spot's color is caused by chemical reactions of the gases in Jupiter's atmosphere react with the energy sunlight. This explains why in this particular image the GRS is a salmon Pink reader than its normal Red.

In physics, an inverse-square law is any physical law stating that a specified physical quantity or intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source of that physical quantity.
