......a lot better than my first attempt. You will enjoy every improvement you make & get a great kick out of seeing what YOU captured....Just watch the hole in your pocket ..... it seems to get bigger also as you try different ideas :-)

Well done. My first attempt was very similar - pointed a little pocket camera through the eyepiece of an old 114mm reflector. :)

Kinch has sage advice - I'm only really getting to experiment with webcam and DSLR astrophotography. It's rewarding when I see improvements but I've bought a decent amount of gear (albeit nothing compared to the people who invest in mid to high-end cameras/mounts/telescopes...)

EDIT: A nice, cheap way of improving DSLR images is to invest in a remote shutter cable. This allows you to take the shot without having to touch the camera. If you're somewhat technically literate you can try making one yourself. I built one from an old set of heaphones (connector and cable), a momentary switch and a used eye-dropper bottle. Some of the Canon DSLR's also have an IR activated shutter. www.doc-diy.net/photo/remote_pinout/#canon

Nice attempt there astroman, as Al says, since the moon is very bright and that 8inch has great light gathering power, try to reduce the exposure time, you'll get a nice sharp image, and even better detail too ;-)

Keith..
