Looks a lot like jpeg compression noise on my screen.

That aside its a superb image. Are the diffraction spikes real or photoshopped? (I think that might be what Seanie means by 'twinkle effect'!)

Dave I think its definitely jpeg compression. The image I uploaded was 3.84 MB but on flick r it is 148 KB. I use flickr uploader and it used to ask if you wanted to compress the image before upload but this option seems to have disappeared. The program may be automatically compressing the image.

Hi Kieran,
Flickr auto converts the image for you, but does it rather badly, I have found you'd end up with a better image by doing the conversion in photoshop yourself rather then letting flickr do it for you.
