Janet Akyüz Mattei (1943–2004)

I headed to S&T as I usually do every day to see what's new. I'm not a variable observer, but I know some folks here are, and I thought they'd want to read this - skyandtelescope.com/news/article_1224_1.asp - I read about her in the December 2003 issue thought that someone who leads a major amateur astronomy organisation for 30 years must be some astronomer.

I'm sure she'll be missed.

Tom, I am a Variable star observer and member of AAVSO, what a sad loss this will be, she was quite a woman, her passion for astronomy was ledgendary amongst variable star enthusiasts. I've already recieved about 100 e-mails from all over the world paying tribute on the aavso discussion list, she will be missed.
