Have a look a the long-period variable Omicron Ceti (Mira). It is now a bright naked eye object! I estimated it as magnitude 2.3 on 17th Feb 2007. See my photo at

Also, maybe those on the south coast might glimpse Nova Sco 2007 (V1280 Sco), now reported at abound 3rd mag. The declination is below 32d south.
