72 inch at Birr was created by DeirdreKelleghan
Hi everyone, I am looking for some history of the 72 inch in Birr. Just a little background to somthing I am writing. Also if anyone knows if it is going to be up and running for Whirlpool ?

King - The History of the Telescope has a great section on the Birr indstruments. Well worth a look.

Hi,
2. Michael Tubridy wrote a (not so small) booklet on the Birr Telescope, about the time it was refurbished (around 1997). There should be a copy in the IAS Library.

2. Patrick Moore wrote a small book "The Astronomy of Birr Castle" in the late sixties, it was reprinted about 20 years later.

Both give a lot of information.

It is a disgrace that this fine telescope has been neglected for the past several years,
it should have been ready for the Whirlpool event 3 years ago.
Wonder what views others have on this
