Happy birthday, universe was created by cobyrne
Today is the 6,010th birthday of the universe , according to a previous archbishop of Armagh .

Not that I'm into creation or anything, but how the hell did they manage to decide that the universe was created at 9am on this day 6,010 years ago? Which time zone does the 9am refer to anyway?

In his defence, there wasn't a huge body of scientific evidence to stand on back in 1650. As for the New Creationists who now quote his work, well, that's a different story.

A subsequent Archbishop of Armagh (Richard Robinson) built the Armagh Observatory, from whence Dreyer later compiled the NGC/IC catalogs. (I'll admit a slight bias for this particular Archbishop -- as he also built our house -- although he died before seeing it completed.)

The wikipedia entry is funny:

The chronology, first published in 1650, is famously the source of the citation by many modern Creationists that the universe was created by God on 23 October 4004 BC (around teatime).

9am or teatime, which is it!? And when exactly is tea time anyway? :-)

And behold, God was so pleased with His creation that He decided to have a cup of tea!

And that's how we know that the universe was created around teatime
