Observer's Handbook 2016 was created by flt158
Hello, all.

I just thought I might mention that I have received a copy of the Observer's Handbook 2016 which is published by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. It is my first time to purchase this yearbook. I bought it from Sky and Telescope for under $40. Perhaps some of you might get a copy cheaper than me, but I have to say that it did arrive very quickly from S & T. It is, after all, only the 8th December and I have it for the whole of 2016!
It does have all what I would expect it to have -long introduction, basic data, time details, optics, observing the sky month by month, Eclipses, the Transit of Mercury 2016, the Moon, the Sun, planets and satellites, asteroids, meteors, comets everything about stars (!) and Deep Sky objects.

I strongly recommend this invaluable book to anyone of us!

Clear skies,

Aubrey.

Hi,

Yes, this is an excellent guide. I have being getting it for the last couple of years. It does include 'almost everything'.

However, be aware, that some of its data is, naturally, only given for N. America (e.g. Lunar Occultations, Transit of Mercury etc.).

Yes, John. I would agree with you that the times given for the Transit of Mercury would be different for USA compared to Ireland. I would be very pleased if we could observe it from Dublin. According to the information of this excellent handbook, a lot of countries in Europe, Asia and America will be getting the opportunity to witness it in May.

Clear skies to you John and Sara.

Aubrey.

Thank you, Fermidox. You are already on the ball.

Eventually we must start a new thread.

Hi Aubrey,

Full details of the Transit of Mercury as seen from Ireland will appear in Sky-High 2016.
