Mark.
Anybody who says that Earthshine is reflected Sunshine is talking Moonshine.

High quality remote sensing equipment makes a nonsense of putting a human on Mars.
Anyway, humans on Mars are really on Earth.
Their heavy suits have to reproduce Earth's environment or they die on Mars.
Astronauts standing on Mars are as remote from Mars as are their controllers on Earth.

I agree with everyone. sort of... mankind is hardwired to explore. and will colonise space if he survives. the phrase "don't put all your eggs in one Basket applies" for this reason alone we need to go to mars. On the other hand, Mankind evolved on this very specific planet. and tera-forming of mars is a long term commitment. The will to do it would outlive governments and individuals.
even the journey would be a hazard for future explorers. Ya can't get a new head gasket millions of miles from earth. not to mention solar radiation...etc

We need to get back to the moon first, I think Mars is literally decades away, probabily the second half of this centuary at best.

Dave according to both shows i saw (Moon Base and Mars), the plan is to go to the moon in 2018 to try out technologies and ideas that will be used in a manned Mars mission in 2020.
That's the PLAN........................
The reality may be very different.
