You should check out this month's (100th Issue Collector's Edition) Sky at Night magazine for a piece showcasing letters between Patrick Moore and Paul Johnstone, the show's original producer. Moore's reputation and chances of being its presenter hung in the balance upon a documentary called Flying Saucers: Do they exist...
...which NEVER aired! The letters, in rapid succession for a snail mail service back then, offer a nice bhind the scene glimpse of how keen Patrick was to be on TV.

I think when i did my talk on the geezer earlier this year i mentioned he had a discussion with Air marshall Dowding.....must get hold of a copy
