IMPORTANT - Guidelines for Avatars & Images was created by voyager
Hi guys, to make this site more friendly for those of us deprived from Broad Band and to save us a bit of bandwidth I would like to ask you all to please abide by these guidelines when it comes to avatars and including images in posts.
Avatars:
======
1) Please do not use avatars bigger than about 125 x 175 pixels (preferably smaller, say about 80 x 80 pixels like my avatar <== )
2) Please keep the file size of your avatars small, definitely no larger than 80KB and preferably about 40KB or so.
3) Please avoid excessivly flashy animated avatars. There is nothing wring with a subtle aimation but please avoid eye hurting disco style avatars!
Images:
=====
1) When including iamges in a post please try to keep the image as small as it can be while still being big enough to illustrate your point.
2) If you need to include a very large image (> 600 pixels in any dimension) please do not include the image in the post but provide a link to it instead. This will prevent images breaking the layout of the site and make life for the non-broadbanders bearable.
Also can people choosing to use external image hosting sites rather than the files section or their own websites please consider using www.flickr.com and add a tag to your images of IrishAstronomy.
The benefit of doing this is that all the pictues that people use here will be easily visible on one external image site and people can view them on this site www.flickr.com/photos/tags/irishastronomy/
Thanks in advance for your cooperatoin with these guidelines,
Bart B.,
IFAS Webmaster.

Erm, I haven't added any limmits, I'm trusting people's honesty! Can you take a screen shot of the error?

OK, just had a look at the settings and it woudl appear that one of the updates I did to the baord re-set the defaults, enabled avatar uploading and set stupid limmits!
I have un-done the rediculous settings. I had never intended ot allow avatar uploading via phpbb, that is a security risk and as such was not intended!
To have an avatar you should remote link to one that you have on the web somewhere. If you don't have anywhere to put your avatar on the web upload it to the files section in the Avatars folder and then remote link to it.
BTW, in a classic case of Irony Dave, I was using your avatar to guess the suggested maximum sizes because yours seemed to be as big as you can go without busting the layout!

no harm, I've reduced my avatar size anyway.
