You have captured a great image with your ETX70. What camera did you use and what mount did you use?
I took you image and did a very quick histogram stretch in Paint Shop Pro.

M31 is always a downer for someone starting off, its so underwhelming, especially in such a small scope. You need a dark sky, big aperture and dark adaption to see anything other then a fuzzy blob.
You'd be doing very well to se anything of M51 in a 70mm scope, sorry, its probabily not what you want to hear.

I've seen the dust lane in M31 in my 20x60mm binoculars from the TAS observing site outside Tullamore. M32 and M110 very nice too.

Due to the size of it, M31 is difficult to see detail in. The bigger the scope, the smaller the field of view. Very big scopes can't take in enough of a field of view to see the whole thing.
