Eleventh Dimension (go on, what's the real name behind that monicker?!),
as you re in Dublin, you have a couple of clubs at your disposal for going to a meeting and, hopefully weather permitting, try out other members equipment. Almost sounds bad that one... meeting up in a dark place, away from city lights, trying out someone elses equipment...

It does sound a bit suspicious alright Seanie! I don't think my girlfriend would be too pleased . My other alias is Mark by the way Seanie.

I forgot to say,
Binos are grand but if you get a bino stand or something to attach the binos on like
a camera tripod then it will be 100 times better.
By the way keep your eyes peeled for offers in Lidil for scopes.
The sometimes run an ETX special coming up to christmas and
you'd be well covered with the 600 budget.
They had a meade 6'' ldx75 promotion in March and the price was an
amazing 500 squid.
I bought one but unfortunatly it was a dud.
Others here were lucky and it's an excellent scope.

@ Barberskum I think I will take both yours and Dave’s advice and invest in a decent pair of binoculars and not rush into buying a scope just yet. I wasn’t aware that you could get good views of the objects you’ve mentioned in your post above.

Hi everybody,
I am from Athens, Greece, 39 ys. old. I am an amateur astronomer, mostly hunting asteroid occultations. Last August I was involved in a successfull observation of an uranian satellite occ. event. My club in Greece is EAE www.astronomia.org.gr/ (sory, only greek lang!).
Why sign-in here? Well, I have visited Ireland 5 ys ago and I loved the country and the people! But a more realistic reason is that I would like to hear and exchange some info and ideas about the eclipse of August 1. We are many amateurs here that try to find a good/better/best scenario for the Novosibirsk expedition!
My greetings to all!
