Canon EOS 400d was created by pmgisme
Dixons (Ireland) are selling the Canon EOS 400d digital SLR for just 799.99 Euros this Christmas. This includes an 18-55mm lens.
Cheapest I have ever seen this camera.
They are still building their Irish website so no mention.
Their British website says "Sold Out".
Not surprised.
Peter.

I saw on the Telescope-Service website that they are now authorised dealers for Canon cameras and sell modified Canon cameras with Baader IR filters and full manufacturers warranty for just over 1000 Euro

Peter,
I saw one for sale on Astromart just last week for 500 euro in mint condition. Personally I would wait for the EOS 5d to come down in price ... there is something special about 35mm sized chips.

I beleive the 400D has got great reviews so far, and that's not a bad price for what you are getting!
Anthony, what's so special about 35mm chips?

Same image scale but a much larger field of view. My EOS 300d measures 22x15 mm (by memory - I could be wrong) and in contrast to the 35mm chips which measure 36x24 mm and which translates to more than 2x the physical area.
The other alternative is the construction of mosaics.

Very true Anthony, I would consider upgrading the camera in a few years, one thing to keep in mind is that not all scopes can utilise this massive field of view, you get more vignetting/curvature and so on the further you get from the center fo the field fo view, especially on SCTs.
I suppose a rich field high end refractor would be the job for a camera like that.
