We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time. . . .

A word of warning on where you buy the green laser from. I bought my first one from atlasnova.com, tell them you are from IFAS.
Since this is mounted to the scope I wanted a second one to use as a pointer. I bought a cheapo off ebay. It worked for a little while, but was virtually invisible when it did work. It went straight into the bin.

fguihen, as a fellow newbie I'm just wondering what you thought of Andromeda when you found it?
I'm in the same boat as yourself, got a 6" Scope but all I've been looking at is the moon & Saturn. I thought I found Andromeda but I'm not sure. By the sounds of it you saw it and obviously picked out detail, all I saw was a smudge /
I'm not working from a dark site so that might be a problem.

Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.

Word of caution: a 50Mw laser 'pointer' may fall within the classification of a firearm because of the sweeping definition in the current version of the Firearms Act, specifically because it may be capable of causing physical harm (temporary blindness or sight impairment) at a distance. In that case importing or being in possession of one without an appropriate license would constitute a criminal offence.
The question you have to answer for yourself is whether it's worth the potential hassle.

In other words, stick to the 5mW one! It really is all you need. The 50mW is like a 2km long light sabre!

The 50 mW is just for fun, if its classed as a firearm then be careful.
Having said that, if I had a rock and was able to take your eye out with it, is that a firearm ??
