I have a Soligor XT 1000mm 3.9" refractor. There appears to be a problem with focusing, infact the only way to focus on any object celestial or terrestial is to not place the eyepiece full into the focuser. I have tried it with a number of eyepieces including a Barlow lense (i have to leave the barlow lense out roughly the same distance), and they all work the same way.
Is this a problem or is this how it has been designed, maybe to accomodate astrophotography or some other eyepieces (note: that one of the eyepieces i've tried is a soligor 9mm).
If it is a problem, then would i need to screw out the main lense or should i leave it as it is?
Thanks

Mike
I think this is a problem but it could be either with the eyepiece, (a pain) or it could be with the scope itself. (a bigger pain).
It appears that the the image is coming to a focus a bit further then it should be which could be caused by any number of different reasons.
If it is under waranty then I would return it and get another one or your money back.

Mike...
I started with a soligor,4.5 inch FL 1000mm refractor, and still use it.. if you are near to waterford, you are welcome to try it out , to compare, if you wish

Thanks for the replies.
Wellbuttie do you need to rack out the focuser much with yours?
I expect it is a problem with the Telescope, what i can't understand is how this kind of problem would occur? If the telescope got a knock surely the image would be knocked of axis? In my case its not it focuses on axis and in fact i got nice image of Venus with it. The telescope is out of warranty unfortunatley and iam not even sure if it ever worked. Another thing the focal length is stated as been 1000mm, iam not familiar with refractors but basically i racked out the focuser fully and rouglhy measured a 1000mm from the main lense to the focuser, from this it does seem that the focal point is outside of the fully racked out focuser, from my understanding of building a telescope it should be that you leave the focal point about 20mm outside of fully racked in focuser?
Is it possible that this is a manufacturing problem?
What reasons would you expect Dave?
Also i work in clonmel so i would be relatively close to Waterford.
Thanks again. Any help appreciated!!!
