Hi Folks,
This is my first post on this board... I'm a newbie to all this astronomy stuff.
Started to get into it when I downloaded Stellerium and could match the stars in the sky with the software.
I live in Co. Tyrone (out in the middle of no where) so I have a great view of the sky at night (except for all the cloud ) :x
Anyway, my first question I'm looking to invest in a pair of binoculars and thinking of these :-
Celestron Skymaster 15x70 binocs
Any thoughts. I know I will probably need a tripod as well any suggestions ?
Thanks
Madhatter

Welcome along Mad Hatter!
Those binos are pretty good alright. I don't have a pair myself, but I know countless people that do. They are quite heavy, so you will need a tripod. Well, they are not heavy, just that if you hold them up long enough, you'll get sick of it!
Stellarium is a great piece of free software, and as you said, is great for finding your way before stepping outside due to its graphical likeness.

Welcome aboard Mad Hatter
I have a pair of Skymasters and they are great value. A tripod really helps as they are a bit heavy and the field of view is smaller than a pair of 10x50s. The tripod adapter that comes with them is fine for 50mm binoculars but is useless for the 70mm skymasters as it flexes too much under the weight. Invest in a metal tripod adapter.
A great way to get into the hobby!

Any decent camera store should have one. I would advise getting a good solid one which can be raised just above eye level. A bit more expensive but it can be used for cameras, camcorders as well.

Hi Madhatter,
Welcome to the boards.
IMHO, I'd recommed you go for something like 7x50s or 10x50s. Lighter, easier to use, no need for a tripod. If this is your first pair of binos, then this is the route I would recommend.
