Can I "acclimatise" my Canon 350D? was created by Seanie_Morris
Folks,
can I leave my Canon 350D with lenses to acclimatise to the outside temperature in my (open) shed for a while before using it? Has anyone tried it? I would, of course, take precautions against things like dew inside the shed dripping on it (it's a metal shed).
Thoughts.
Seanie.

John
Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.

Absolutely (if it was a Nikon). Can't say with absolute certainty about a Canon but I would hope so. I've left all four of the Nikon digital cameras I've had out in the cold, often overnight, at one time or another and I've seen no ill effects - except that the battery could lose charge unless you remove it and keep it indoors until you need it.

Thanks for the tip re: the battery John, that one I wouldn't have thought of!

Another thing to watch would be the lens chip fogging over from your body heat and/or breath when using it out in the cold.

Your battery will not last long in the cold anyway. Get a couple more off ebay.
According to Cannon it only works down to 0C, but I've used it a few degrees below that and had it in my backpack hiking in snow. When you bring it in make sure that you let it air so that condensation doesnt build up on the surfaces though.
Depends more on how secure your shed is I'd imagine.

One tip you can do lads is to wrap your camera/lenses up in a plastic bag before taking them in from the cold, that way the temperature on them will rise slowly, so no condensation will form
