Where's Mars gone now? was created by whitephantom
Hi guys,
Well, Santa delivered the much longed-for telescope this morning, fair play to him!
I know Mars was very close to the moon at 3am (ish) this morning, but where is it hanging out now? (Mars, that is, not the moon - I can find the moon ok!! ) Having not had a chance to look up as much info as I'd like, I don't know where to go looking at the moment, so any pointers much appreciated!!
I found a web site ages ago that allowed me to enter my country and town, and from that info it showed the sky exactly as it would be there and then, but do you think I made a note of the website? Not a chance!
Many thanks, and happy Christmas to all!
J.

Right now (20.26pm Christmas day) it is high up in the east - big bright, reddish star - brightest thing in that part of the sky (apart from the moon!) - can't miss it!
Happy Christmas,
Phil.
PS - Santa brought me TheSky6 (SA) as a stocking filler!

In non Astronomical terms its diagonally off up and to the right of the moon about 3 or 4 fist widths when you hold your fists out in front of you My colour perception is a little different to Philips obviously because to me it looks yellow. The bright star Siriius hasn't risen just yet so Mars will be the brightest thing in the sky at the moment bar the moon
www.heavens-above.com/ is probably the site you were talking about.
Also you should download a program called Stellarium. Its a free Planetarium program.

Thanks a mil, guys!
I'll check out that site and see what I can find. I've a lot of finding to do - all I need now is 48 hours in each day!
But for now I'm off to my leaba. Been a very long day.
Cheers,
J.

Hey J,
nice present! But, what is it?
To help you further locate Mars (and other astronomical targets), get your mits on Stellarium. It will help you out, is free, and can be downloaded from www.stellarium.org
