Diagonals?

Hi all,

excuse my sillyness....but what is the actual purpose for a diagonal? isit to see a better field of view?

It is simply to have a better viewing angle when lookng through a refractor (type of view) telescope. If you can think of it like this, if you wanted to look straight up the tube, you will have to bend down lower (and probably at odd angles) to get your eye to the eyepiece. Having a diagonal stops you from stooping.
