Hi folks,
Hope all is well with everyone. I never really disapeared, I've lurked in the background and enjoyed the reading, I think producing all these kids has worn me out at this age, I really must stop:ohmy:
Anyway, I'm trying to get back into the swing of things, gazing-wise and I'm using my eldest daughter (7-years-old) so as you can imagine she's as keen as mustard and always trying to drag me out.
However, she's dropped me in it a bit, she took a couple of my shots to school to show her classmates and teacher, now I'm roped into going along to talk to them about it. I nearly turned it down, I've no problem giving lectures on orchids as I do, but I felt I didn't know enough about astronomy. After thinking about it, I thought what the hell, it's a bunch of 7-year-olds, all I need to do is tell them what little I do know. Perhaps I owe it to them in a way, we might even get a couple of budding astronomers out of it. So, I've decided to go for it.
Where I need your help is, a couple of more images. A picture Of Jupiter, Saturn, Mars etc if any one could be so helpful as to loan me. Full credit will be given. Most of my photographs were locked up in my other PC when the fan failed and I haven't had the chance since to do anything about it yet. I have a couple of lunar shots and one of the Ring Nebula, Maybe a galaxy shot would be good. I'm looking for around 10 or 12 pics I can print off. I'm sure you all know the sort of thing that would impress a dozen or so 7-year-olds.
I'm doing the talk this coming Wednesday, 11th Feb.
Many thanks in advance.
Bill.

Bill,

Outreach is always rewarding, and don't doubt yourself, you be surprised at how much you know, its not until they start asking the questions and it all flows out of you that you realise how much you have learned yourself. Your welcome to use any of my pics from www.astronomy.com/photos/jcmurphy in the astronomy set. Best of luck on your endeavour. And as for kids wearing you out I sympathise - I've four.

Hi Bill, The very best of luck with your presentation. Feel free to use some of my pics if you wish. They are available at www.flickr.com/steveroche

They are broken down into Solar System objects and Deep Sky Objects. Of paticular interest to the audience maybe this one:

Taken last year, from my back garden. It shows Saturn and some of its Moons.

Best regards

Bill - me old China! Brilliant to see you're still around and as keen as ever.

Feel free to use any of the images on www.astroshack.net if they suit your needs. Perhaps the shot of 2008TM9 would be a talking point...

If you're stuck for further images of the Solar System, I can email you a bunch of hi res stuff. I know some of my images are pretty poor quality really.

Cheers and good luck with the show!

Dave

Jeez folks, I'm overwhelmed by your kindness, but after all, that's why I stick around here, everyone so generous and helpful.
I will look through everyones photos and let you all know what I'm going to use.
A special congrats to you Dave on your dicovery, my intention was to speak about that with your permission. We must get together again soon. By the way, our child-count is now 4, the youngest 14 months. I'm sure it's not good for me at 56 :woohoo:
Many thanks everyone.
Bill.
