Bill - you, and anyone else, is more than welcome to speak about the discovery of 2008 TM9. Not wanting to speak for Dave Grennan, but I'm sure that goes for 2008 US3 too! Certainly as far as I'm concerned, no need to ask permission.
It'd be great to meet up again and reminisce about Meade DSI's and hot soup 56? A young whippersnapper... There's gotta be more in ye!
All the best and good luck with the talk - you'll be great!
Dave
my intention was to speak about that with your permission. We must get together again soon. By the way, our child-count is now 4, the youngest 14 months. I'm sure it's not good for me at 56 :woohoo:

Don't tell Lesley, she will want more and I'm the house-husband
Soup's on the stove, Dave.
Dave G, many thanks. I love popping in once a week if I can. No doubt my daughter will be making me pop in daily now.

Hi Bill,
I was asked to do similar this last year for a bunch of ten year old girls from an under-privileged school in downtown Dublin. I too have only a limited knowledge of astronomy and to be honest was dreading it. I changed it around though, I got the teacher, the person who roped me in, and a couple of parents and organised a night in the Pheonix park with my 8inch Newtonian, a step ladder and three binos (thanks again to Skynotes for the laser pointer and the other 2 binos). We looked first at the half moon, in and around Orion, Polaris and how Ursa Major always points to Polaris, etc, lastly we looked at Saturn which was better placed last year. Guess what, I enjoyed it immensely, so did the kids and so did the adults. It was very very satisfying. It now seems that a photo of me and C8N is on their school noticeboard and I even got a thank you card from them.
So don't worry, you don't need much to get through it and you will feel great at the other end. Be Brave!
Good Luck
Mark.
