Try simply going out one late evening without any optical gear and looking up (obviously on at least a reasonably clear night...)
When I've not been near the telescope or binoculars for ages, I find this reminds me of why I do what I do and that I need to get both my finger and telescope out...
Another great way would be to come along to the Burren Star Party of course!

I think's it a combination of the summer which I'm not the biggest fan of! more of a autumn / winter sort of guy and the dread of having to give the scope a good clean!!! lol
