Just in from a great hour. was created by Ibecake
Hi this is my first real post since i introduced myself 1 year and 11 months ago. I had an opus 70mm from Aldi which blew over and smashed on my deck after about 2 weeks. Bought a Celestron 114mm goto last Christmas and had a nice couple of nights learning the scope over the spring and tonight was my first night out this season. Spent about 15min trying to find where a blur was coming from only to realize it was M32 "i think as that is what i had slew to". delighted i spent the next 15min viewing this then slew the scope over to Jupiter which blew me away completely so much so i had to drag my heavily pregnant wife out to have a look which blew her away as well. I was amazed with the clarity of Jupiter i could clearly see 2 bands and 4 moons. I tried the Barlow lens x2 that came with the Aldi scope but that totally degraded the sight. I would have loved to get a pic but the clouds rolled in. I know my scope is a tiddler compared to others but the stars totally aligned tonight for me excuse the pun i can see how people can get addicted.

Ciaran - great report :-)

Do I detect:
1. Aperture fever ("my scope is a tiddler")
2. Addiction (I see how "people" can get addicted)

?
:-)

By the way, if you and your wife were blown away by Jupiter, you'll both need physical restraint when Saturn starts to show itself in a few months...

Thanks again for sharing your experience and keep reporting in!

Maybe next year I'd like to get my eye in more before i commit to something bigger, thinking of this for my next purchase Sky-Watcher but i might buy an eyepiece or 2 before then.
I would be open to suggestions to an eyepiece that I can use now but would like to carry it over to my next scope a good all rounder.

2. Addiction (I see how "people" can get addicted)

nearly there I'd say Saturn will put me over the edge altogether.

that skywatcher would be a nice upgrade,
I was using a 6"sct until recently, I bought a 9.25"sct, and what a difference, im over the moon with it, lol
im seeing alot more faint fuzzies than i could with my old scope

Nice report Ciaran, it's nice to see you're making the use of good weather when it's made available to you. Reading it is like an observing session with subtitles!
