A never-before-seen meteor shower may peak this weekend which could rival the famed Perseids as our primary Summer shower.

If predictions hold true, then as many as 200+ meteors per hour will be seen across Europe and very early in North America, on Friday night 23rd/Saturday morning May 24.

The new shower, dubbed the May Camelopardalids, is a result of dust shed from the faint periodic comet 209P/LINEAR. The comet regularly crosses Earth’s orbit as it rounds the sun every five years.

yea, apparently peaking between 6 and 8 UT, that's 7 and 9 summer time on saturday morning, so the US is better located for this, IF those times are right.
Its definitely worth getting up before sunrise on saturday morning for this if its clear, as the times could be wrong and the peak lasting atleast a few hours either side of the maximum.
Equipment required, 1,recliner deckchair. 2,blanket. 3, flask of tea :)

We might even get a few more fireballs on Russian car cams. :)

P.S. apparently there is excitement about impacts on the Moon been visible through scopes !

I'm planning on a nights photography Friday night anyway, lets hope that it stays clear and we get to see I. Bear in mind though that twilight will be very noticeable from as early as 3.10am !!

Heavy rain spreading from the east overnight, this looks doomed.

Some parts of the western Connacht and Munster might have clear skies and they might see some meteors. It could be game on for Dave Lillis! No hope for us in the east.

No reports of any 'storm', best conditions seem to have been in the US midwest but rates of no more than 5/6 per hour so something of an anticlimax it has to be said.
