Occultation of Aldebaran was created by flt158
Good evening, admirers of occultations.
Most of us know that the Gibbous Moon is occulting the brightest star in Taurus during the early hours of Wednesday morning. A low western horizon is required to catch this. According to Terry Moseley, the 2 objects will be low at about 10 degrees above the horizon. From Dublin, the occultation will occur at 3.23 am on Wednesday morning.
Any suggestions for a location? I am all for the Sugarloaf Car Park. But maybe someone else can give an alternative viewing site somewhere in Leinster.
I have not checked the weather yet.
Clear skies,
Aubrey.

Hi all.
Gamma Tauri (Hyadum I) will be occulted @ 19.06 approximately.
We have clear skies over Dublin at 18.20 UT.
It will be interesting to compare times from various parts of Ireland before the "big one" Aldebaran.
Aubrey.

The Hyadum 1 occultation took place at 19.07 UT. Anyone else see it?
The next one occurs at about 22.16. It will be 70 Tauri -magnitude +6.4.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

I timed the disappearance at 19.08, but I would not trust my watch. It was interesting to observe it as it just blinked out.
I spent some time observing the moon, I never noticed how the wrinkle ridges look like waves approaching the Bay of Rainbows.
Saw 3 certain craterlets in Plato, possibly a fourth, though I couldn't be sure.
There are some wonderful rays rushing across the surface, one close to the sunlit side that seems to come from the far side.

Brilliant, Paul.
I'm glad you are observing the occultations. My digital watch is 30 seconds fast. I have checked the true time from my PC.
Yes, I do see those beautifully faint ridges below Sinus Iridium.
Check out very distinctive Dorsum Heim coming down from the western side of Mare Imbrium. The crater C. Herschel goes halfway through it.
Also south of Mons Vinogradov are a huge cluster of hills called the Lothrop Hills. They are very close to the terminator.
I am beginning to think what time I will finish tonight!
Aubrey.
