Penumbral Eclipse tonight was created by JohnONeill
Hi,
Just a reminder about tonight's Penumbral Eclipse. If you look carefully you should see a slight dimming of the moon, particularly around mid-eclipse at 00:44 UT. This event will not compare with a total lunar eclipse or even a partial one. The man/woman in the street would most likely not notice it.
Despite what other websites in Ireland say, the Moon will not turn red and a penumbral eclipse is not usually considered a "Partial Eclipse". Th phase Partial Eclipse is reserved for partial umbral eclipses.
Nevertheless, have a go observing it.
John

Thank you, John, for that vital information.
I have just come home now at midnight.
The Full Moon is very bright -but there is no dark shading.
Aubrey.

Dublin skies are now overcast at 00.30.
Can anyone else see anything?
Aubrey.

My skies never cleared again.
I waited until 1 am.
Congratulations on your very fine image, Finbarr.

Hi,
I managed to see the penumbral eclipse before layers of clouds thickened. Was pretty easy to see the darkening in the North of the Moon to he naked eye. Due to the low Moon (from across the Pond) did not use the Observatory, but get a couple of shots with the 200 mm lens on a tripod.
Please see my website Variable Star Nights for a image.
