hi all,
just received an aurora alert from Aurorawatch UK. "Traffic light" is showing RED at the moment.
AuroraWatch Alert, 14:02 UT 26 Apr 2006:
VERY LARGE increase in local activity, possible SSC.
www.dcs.lancs.ac.uk/iono/aurorawatch/
clear skies!

coruscations attending the whole length of the luminosity, giving to the phenomena the aspect of a wrathful messenger, and not that of a tranquil body pursuing a harmless course..comet of 1680

Thanks John. I will monitor the north tonight if it clears!
The other aurora charts are dead so far. Not even a hint of activity. Does anyone know what has caused this disturbance? is that solar wind stream arriving 24 hours late as predicted by SW or did the IMF tilt south?
Thanks

not sure now if the Aurora Watch UK site is acting up. The traffic light is showing red but the actual plot is pretty flat with no real variation from the normal magnetic index. I wonder have they tweaked something in their software that has gone awry. They did send a release last week saying that the funding for the Terrestrial Environment unit was being withdrawn and they wanted amateur astronomers to lobby for its retention.

Thanks John. I recall that email. Think they have it mentioned on SW today.
