Not to worry. Even if you don't need that boat tonight Dublin city centre will be the new Venice in a few decades time anyway. It won't do much for tourism though because it'll have plenty of competition.

From the NOAA Space Environment Center...A large number of energetic solar protons are streaming past Earth. This is a sign that a coronal mass ejection (CME) may be heading our way. Protons are accelerated in shock waves at the leading-edge of CMEs, so when the proton count rises, we can guess that a CME is coming, sky watchers should remain alert for auroras tonight. Skies breaking here.

AROUND THE CORNER: Sunspot 930, which caused so many beautiful auroras in mid-December, is due to return this weekend. Tall magnetic loops now visible on the sun's eastern horizon herald its arrival,The sunspot was last seen on Dec. 17th disappearing over the sun's western limb. The sun spins on its axis every 27 days, and that is why sunspot 930 will soon reappear--on the eastern limb following a 2-week transit of the sun's farside. What will sunspot 930 bring this time, hopefully might clear up this bloody weather.
