Christmas in Lanzarote. was created by pj30something
I am gonna be in Lanzarote for a week (from the 20th Dec). Is there anything i should be looking out for of interest in the skies from that LAT/LONG?
I'll only have my 7X50 bins with me.

Keep an eye out for the way the constellations are orientated differently. When I was in Tunisia in September, I was able to see Orion lie on its side! You're not going too far south, but watch how high Sirius will get!

I'm not sure if Lanzarote is far enough south, but from Central Florida I could see Canopus, the second brightest star in sky. It is almost directly below Sirius. See how high Canis Major is in this shot - Sirius is off the top.
Just checked - Lanzarote is 29 deg N, the same as Central Florida so you should indeed be able to spot Canopus near the horizon.

I saw some of the best fireballs of my life from Lanzarote a few yrs back. Fingers crossed that there might be one or two stray ones again.
