Hey Matt....................hows the weather over there? it was taking a turn for the worse the day i left.
Seanie the weirdest thing was seeing Orion rise and set. It was the complete opposite to here. As it rose it was on it's side..................as it set it was standing upright. It actually took me a few minutes to find it cuz i was looking for it as i have known it all my life. Sirius was pretty faint from where i was.................only about half the brightness as it is in Irish skies. Funnily enough Mars was also only about half as bright as it is here. I saw the ISS pass over a couple of days ago too. The best sight was the moon hidden behind thin clouds.....................WOW.....................the halo was SPECTACULAR..................it looked like the moon had rings around it.

Orion on it's side! It reminds me of an August morning dawn, some years ago, just before we call it an observing session night and go to sleep, someone looked up at the eastern horizon and yield:" What's that magnificent NEW constellation which looks like a Christmass tree?"
The 3 belt stars make the trunk, and the patterrn is VERY symmetrical. Just like a Christmass tree.
PS: The name of that someone is Christina - what a coincidence!

well, you are lucky to be getting away from this drenched island for a week, the rest of us have to put up with the constant battle with the weather.
I'm afraid if I went their in the winter, I'd end up staying there.
