HI Yiannis,
I'm absolutely delighted that you guys got to see the eclipse! North of the city was a good idea as far as the weather was concerned.
The day after the eclipse, we went to Xi'an to see the Terracotta Warriors, which was v. good. Now we are in Beijing and saw Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City earlier today (8:20pm here now). Excellent holiday so far! We fly home in a couple of days. Hope all you guys are having a good time.
Roll on 2012! (annular in California / total in Australia)
Take care,
Michael.

The potential for super images was there, but so were the clouds, thats the risk all eclipse chasers must face on these trips.
Anyone know how the eclipse cruise ships faired ??

Roy Mayhugh's group on the Costa Classica, south of Japan, saw the eclipse while those on the Allegra in the East China Sea were clouded out! The Allegra cruise, departing from Shanghai, was organised late and undercut the cost of the Classica trip by some amount. This undercutting in price appears to have been due to the current financial situation. A lot of those on the more expensive Classica trip were pulling out citing financial reasons so a second less expensive cruise was organised. Both cruises were organised by the same shipping concern it seems. So they had a budget cruise and you took your chances and they had a more expensive one where your chances were better.

Unfortunately commerce/greed seems to be taking hold in the eclipse chasing world with the next eclipse in Easter Island all but priced out of most people's wallets by an over eager Chilean airline which controls who flys to the island and a "how much can we make out of this" attitude that would put the most ardent capitalists to shame.

Still I suppose we have Australia to look forward to. I can't see them increasing the price of airline fares just because of an eclipse. They like their tourists.
