2009va near miss

Hi,
Just saw this on the web, looks like we've just had another very close asteroid/rock flyby, it wouldn't have been a serious threat due to its size but if it had hit it would have been a spectacular light show. It missed by only 14000km !

J squad was aware of it and I had clear sky. It was moving at 1600 arc sec per min when I was imaging but because it was moving so fast and with very few obs for orbit the MPC co-ords were off so I got nothing in the images.

A close shave this time luckily it missed us thanks for the link dave.

seriously though, it was great that it was cought before hand, if you run the simulation in starrynight you can see just how close this thing got to hitting us, very cool !
