Last night I was at a Star BQ at a friends house
We had the scopes set up and we were also looking at
the sunset which was definatly an unusual colour.
The other thing was as it neared the horizon the
suns disc was a bright flurescent kind of purple!?
very weird...
We also noticed what I can only discribe as
NLC shaped wavey cloud bands high up..
but dark not illuminated like NLCs.
Obviously this was the ash taking on the same kind
of structure as the NLC (although the ash is WAY lower obvously)

Hey
Bit late jumping in here, but did anyone notice a hint of green to the sunset on thursday night? It really was as small small hint of it. It was more north of the sunset, could be seen in an area from about a 10 upto 30 degrees?
Mike

Didn't see green myself but I did see a deeper
red/purple. nothing extraordinary really.
Green would have been cool to see though.
Hopefully the ash will co
e further south ( sorry to all effected!)

I have made a note that each evening since Wednesday evening had these clouds. When viewed through binoculars around a half hour after the sun has set, they really looked like non-reflective NLC's. Spotted the same on Saturday night of Cosmos during dinner as I was looking for Mercury but I don't know (obviously) if it had anything to do with volcanic ash.
