Was there an exceptional Fireball seen Tuesday night (4th)? was created by Seanie_Morris
Hi all,
This hasn't been doing the rounds as much as previous large-scale sightings and the usual online sources are pretty much bare of any news of it (even D. Moore was slow to mention it) so I wonder if the 'massive' fireball seen by a few on Tuesday night (Ballinasloe and Dun Laoighre was mentioned to me) was not a really big one, but just a big bollide?
Anyone see it at all?
Seanie.

Yup, seen a fireball on Tuesday night, this is the report I sent to Armagh.
From what I can remember there was no 'head' that I could see to it.
am not 100% sure on the definition of a 'Bollide'??
Was amazing to see it from the start to the end!! : blink:
Date:
2012-Jan-03
Time:
Finished ~20:16
Location:
Bray Seafront, Wicklow
Report:
Walking towards Bray Head after the Sealife Centre
Bright Spot noticed between Moon and Orion
Bright spot turned into extremely bright white trail going towards Dalkey Island overhead.
apx 6-10 small pieces broke off with an orange glow.
trail remained white till completely burnt out over sea.
trail was as bright as burning magnesium ribbon!
No clouds at time, no fog, no sound, no gusting winds. from start to finish approx 4 seconds.
any more info required let me know,
Regards,
Graham

Very accurate and well-defined report Graham. It sounds like a good one to have seen. Btw, a 'Bollide' is the technical term for a fireball, which is simply a more massive and more bright meteor, often looking like what you described here.
