Well the news is that Mars should be visible for a while at least in the evening sky from our part of the world in October 2014. It sets around 2 hours after sunset around that time and will be at the boundary of Scorpius/Ophichius/Sagittarius - quite low in the sky mind. Opposition in 2014 is at April so it will past its best.
