With the closure of the January 2014 Astrophotography Competition, it is time to judge the entries. Please view the images and cast your vote on the Poll included. There is no need to reply to this post, or add comments - people's views are their own but may seem to sway favour towards a particular photo if too many comments towards a particular photo is made.

You have only 1 Vote, so make it count. Thanks again to Ktec Telescopes for their sponsorship of the prize for January, a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II camera lens. (see January's competition thread here for details)

Silhouettes #1

The deer were having a last feed before they went down for the night as the moon rose over the hill in Phoenix park Dublin.

Silhouettes #2

Milky way rising over Lostock NSW at the Ice in Space Astro Camp. A three minute exposure using a Canon 7D and Tokina 11-16mm lens on a Vixen Polarie.

Silhouettes #3

Tree Silhouette with sunrise and crescent moon at an Irish lake fromDecember 12th 2013.

Silhouettes #4

The image is of an EA eclipsing binary (an Algol variable - Algol is colloquially known as the “Demon Star”). The chart shows a phased plot (or light curve) of the system indicating that (in our line of sight) two stars are rotating around a shared centre and periodically eclipse each other. The system has an AAVSO designation of 000-BJX-116. The “star” is known as GSC 00614-00582. Details: Celestron C14 at F11, FLI ProLine 1001E, FLI PDF Focuser, AP1200; Images unfiltered and processed in Maxim. Phased plot generated by Canopus.

Best of Luck!
