Feature that allows users to avoid certain topics/forums

Just out of curiosity, is this feature been implimented or is it even possible.
At the moment, after I've read threads I want to see, the way I "unselect" threads is to log out and re-log in, this way unwanted new threads do not appear on my "new posts since last visit", of course until a new post is made in that thread.

Doesn't exists but I will be installing a modification to allow people to pick waht forms to subscribe to so the peoplw who rely on the new topic notifications can cut down on their spam.

Thats a help and certainly addresses the unwanted mail issue, but does not addreess the "view recent posts since last visit" issue, maybe a different strategy would be easy to implement, such as have a little tick box next to each new thread on the page that's generated when you "view last posts since last visit", when you tick it then that thread will never pop up again there, even if a new post is made in it.
This is a thread bassed function as opposed to a forum based function, would this be easy to implement ? Is it feasible? can it be done using cookies (btw I havent a clue about this stuff).

From what Bart is saying, I reckon it should do. When you click "posts since last visit" it will only show you posts in forums which you have subscribed to and not show posts in the forums which you didn't subscribe to.

At least that's my understading anyway.
