As an occasional poster and novice sketcher, I am also happy to go with the flow.

Deirdre/Jeff. As someone who has little or no experience at sketching, both your inspirational works have, on more than a couple of occassions, got me thinking that this is something I would like to do have a go at. Do you think that you guys could come up with an article as a sort of basic tutorial. Maybe outlining the materials needed and perhaps some basic techniques and hints etc. I think that many here would *really* appreciate something like that.

The real trick is to sit down and give it a go - even if it's just with a photograph rather than at the eyepiece - as we discovered at Dee's sketching workshop at Whirlpool. It's amazing just how absorbing and satisfying it is!!
Phil.

Hear Hear,
A sketching / astro art section would be a valuable addition to the site.

Hi guys
You seem to have failed to notice that my post on requesting a sketching forum is over two years old. Since then we had agreement on an Observing Reports and Astronomical Sketching forum , we have that already.
I have no time at the moment to write a tutorial, however I have one already hatched on CN and will post the link in the Observing Reports and Astronomical Sketching forum if you want to use it.
Thanks

On the one hand, having only recently taken up sketching, I feel totally unqualified to give any sort of tutorial.
On the other hand, perhaps being able to still remember what it was like to start would make my thoughts valuable to others at the same place. And I can certainly share some of what I've learned from others such as Dee, Jeremy Perez and Erika Rix.
I'll see what I can do over the Christmas break....
Cheers,
-- Jeff.
