Another bulletin board ... was created by spculleton
I have to admit I find it hard to understand why an island this size with an amateur astronomical population of such small numbers (never mind Moore) could need four astronomy bulletin boards. John Honan's one is handy as a fallback, but boards.ie and now the galway one seem to be superfluous. Just because a society CAN put up a board, does that mean they should?

IFAS has to move beyond having just a bulletin board here. It's time for some of those icons across the top to start meaning things. Instead of being comparable to irishastronomy.com, this site should be comparable to cloudy nights. The resources tab leads to the files section, but then so does the file section link along the left and the recent files section on the main page. How about a reviews section. Rather than having reviews buried in the forums, it should have a seperate section.

Evolution. This site has been the leading Irish astronomical site for over a year, and it needs to adapt if it is to remain so. I'd personally love to see a slew of book reviews on the site. Not only would this be providing a useful service to the user, but it also drags the site up the ranks of search engines. Every little helps, as they say.

Snap; coding is like greek to me. I can organise reviews and so forth with a few of the die-hards, but apart from mailing a word document with them there's little more I can do. Seanie or Mick O'Connell might be able to help.

Bart,

If theres anything you'd like done with php mysql etc I have quite a bit of experience there. What I dont have is tonnes of spare time. But if you need a defined piece of code written or something else concrete like that I'd be happy to help.

Cheers Dave. Once I get the core of the new site working I'll be able to spec up small, well defined tasks that could easily be done by one person with an hour or two spare a week. I'll give you a shout when I get that far.
