In my opinion, they should be added into the Observing Reports section. Sketching is a form of observation reporting, and I think as such, the Observing Reports section is best for them.

Amazing work Deirdre!!!!
To my understanding, sketching is a very serious observational activity.
It follows and completes a visual observation, a scientific visual observation.
It is an ultimate learning experience, and at the same time offers the profound satisfaction of an artistic creation.
Actually it was Galileo that started it ALL, in Sidereus Nuncius.

From Deirdre's post I'd have to conclude that we should have a separate sketching forum so that the sketchers can get the same great support the astrophotographers get in their forum.

I agree with you Voyager, the sketches are wonderful and the artists talented. A photograph catches a moment in time, Astrophotograhpy I believe catches several moments in time and uses technology to stack them! (although I Know little of this dark art myself). The sketch is something similar. Anyway which ever forum you decide on..... as long as we see more.
BTW my interface with technology is poor and I hope to have a go myself at sketching sometime......to old for digital camera's and computer software
