New website URLs was created by John37309
On the new website irishastronomy.org, all the URL's for the website have "index.php" in them.
An admin can get rid of the "index.php" from the URL's by going to;
Global Configuration=>Site=>SEO Settings, and if you select yes for Use "Apache mod_rewrite", that will get rid of the index.php from the website URL's. You can only do this if you have Apache. Also if you do this, you would need to re-name htaccess.txt to .htaccess in the root of the domain.
You could also remove the suffix from the URL too. The front page will be index.php/forum.html. But you can remove the html bit from this is you want by going to;
Global Configuration=>Site=>SEO Settings, then change "Add suffix to URLs" to No.
Short URL's is a nice simple feature. Example of one we all know; sky.com/news
John.

John,
We have done that suggestion now, thank you for that
You also need to clear all caches as well for it to work properly if caching is turned on

Thanks Dave and John,
We have been toying with idea of a new website for months now and it past 3 months, we have managed to have enough time to get it together.
Hopefully we can add a lot more features to it in the future so that it becomes a more valuable resource to Irish astronomers.
Regards
