Better that old people should die of talk than to have young people die in war.
Alternative activities was created by jhoare
As the weather returns to its cloudy ways after the recent short respite I think we need some alternatives to keep the membership interested.
One that immediately occurs to me given the weather of the past two years and the short nights during the height of summer even when the weather is good is "Atmospheric Phenomena" - is there any reason why an astronomer shouldn't be interested in weather, clouds, etc.? We don't have to go the whole hog and join the Cloud Appreciation Society but we certainly need some fillers for all those long summer days and cloudy nights.
My own alternative activity for long summer evenings when the weather is good is solar observing, but that has not been a rich vein during the past two years.
Does anyone have any other thoughts, perhaps something that would fit the category of "Atmospheric Phenomena" as mentioned above, or online astronomy related activities that simply are not weather dependent?

This is precisely the ethos behind the AstroPhotoWeather forum here.....
astrophotoweather.smfforfree4.com/
In terms of traffic it is now the busiest and fastest growing Astronomy based forum in Ireland!
Note that as Admin I am biased, but it is a friendly, welcoming place that has exceeded all expectations.
Cheers,
Paul.

Perhaps we should have a link to it on this site (and vice versa)?
