Would it be possible to have the files section
1) use thumbnails
2) open the image at at optimal size in the same window rather than opening a new browser window and leave the top and sidebars in place for navigation.

Yes, this is something I had planned myself. The data base stores teh mime-type of the fiesl so it is easy to figure out what is and is not an image and what can and cannot have a thumb nail. The only problem is generating the thumbnail! There is no point in just displaying the actual image at 10% size or something like that because that will still cause HUGE lagg for people on diall up connections.Hi,

This is not trivial to do. There is no easy way of figuring out what size an image really is! Also what it the image is bigger than the screen?2) open the image at at optimal size in the same window rather than opening a new browser window and leave the top and sidebars in place for navigation.

Do you have ssh and the ability to install programs on the server? If so you could have a thumnail image (or location) in the database, and have imagemagik or some other tool generate thumbnails when they are uploaded. Theres probably some php library that will do this.

Well if its bigger then it gets scaled down, isn't there a height and width attribute to the <img> tag? Trouble is that will stretch the smaller images also..
Anyway I think you know what Im looking for, something like photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/lxd55teles...st?.dir=/Planets+pix

We have shared hosting so we can only request that stuff get added whenever the admins are doing the next upgrade and even then there is no guarantee that it will be done.Do you have ssh and the ability to install programs on the server? However, I will look into getting the packages installed and see how we go from there.
WE can intelegently re-size in such a way that only images that need ot be re-sized actaully get re-sized IF we can find out on the server side what the image size is, again this would require some PHP version of image magic or sometihng similar.Well if its bigger then it gets scaled down, isn't there a height and width attribute to the <img> tag?
