Prognosis for the night for Ireland in general doesn't look good based on the previous 20 hours or so:

Crystal clear overhead here in Wexford.

Saw about 10 or so, in 15 minutes, some left trails.

Pretty good going :)

Lamentably, not a thing! Total cloud cover.

I was wondering (and google was not forthcoming), what the average distribution of meteors are leading up to and following the peak? I'm assuming, given that one or two days are usually quoted as the peak, that there is a rapid increase and decrease either side of the 'main event'.

Does anyone have links to relevant literature?

Martinus,

There will still be a chance to get to see many more than normal numbers of these for the next 8 to 10 days, so don't despair! I have been watching on every clear night since August 2nd, and I have noted many brief periods of bursts of meteors from the Perseus to Cygnus stretch on each of these nights, getting better as we closed in on the 12th (last night).

Activity will be higher than normal for around 10/12 days till things go back to normal.
