Satellite photos from the met office site (updated hourly) of cloud cover over UK and Ireland:-

www.meto.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_ir.html

There's also links to visible light photos (obviously only duing daylight hours)

Also if you click the link to 'all satellite images' you can get updated pics from around the world.

I some times find www.theyr.net useful. They have cloud predictions and animations that are usually accurate. Although local effects caused by mountains etc. will always be hard for them to allow for.

See theyr.net/cg/cny/I1e155c/F=js*v*050324*21*IE*ie_Dublin for tonights forecast.

Theyr's wind forecasts seem good but the cloud predictions don't work, to be honest, no-one's cloud predictions seem to work very well. I know Martin mentioned Metcheck though I have found them OK if you use the general forecast in conjunction with the more detailed high/middle/low cloud 24hr forecasts which are designed for astronomers.

Want satellite images?

www.sat.dundee.ac.uk/auth.html

requires registration, free and just to track usage, its an academic site. This is the best site I've seen for images.
