Seanie,
the duration of the event, I was hearing explosions and seeing flashes for about 5 to 10 minutes, makes me think it was something other than an ordinary meteorite. Unless it was quite a large object which broke into many smaller pieces, I wish someone else had seen this, I'm starting to think I was halucinating now, although my wife did hear the explosions and so did my father-in-law who lives about 1/2 a mile away from us.

I'd say you're right Mark. Any meteor event would not last more then a couple minutes. Even a spectacular fireball, seen from point of entry and travelling at a slow speed, would still be burnt up after perhaps 2 minutes.
Like the others, I can only guess by your descption as to what you saw. And my guess (though I know is useless) is firecrackers!
